Karol G has paired up for the long-awaited duet “TQG,” combining their star power. The song features Karol and Shakira at their most uncontrolled and is a biting anthem for breaking up that throws the finger at worse, unfaithful partners.

The track is off Karol’s upcoming album, “Maana Será Bonito,” which will get released today (February 24). Over a slow pace, the two singers trade lyrics about a guy who has wronged them.

Each of them refers to famous prior partnerships: Karol, who announced her breakup from rapper Anuel AA in 2021, speaks about a partner she assisted in becoming more successful.

While talking about someone who left her, Shakira seemed to be alluding to her 11-year romance with soccer player Gerard Piqué and their subsequent public breakup.

The 17-song album includes collaborations with Shakira, Carla Morrison,  Quevedo,  Sech, Sean Paul,   Justin Quiles, Bad Gyal, and Angel Dior, and it opens with the song “Mientras Me Curo del Cora.” Together with “Cairo,”  “Gatubela,” “Provenza,” and  “X Si Volvemos,” assisted by  Romeo Santos, also feature previously released smash singles.

The Shakira duet, which got confirmed just days before the album’s release, was one of the most eagerly awaited ones on the compilation. The two collaborate on “TQG.”

It is the first time the Colombian superstars have worked together on a song. As Karol G and Shakira announced the news to their millions of followers on social media, they wrote: “We realize what you’ve all been waiting and now here we are.”

Although the majority of the tracks on the record were created by Karol’s go-to partner, Ovy on the Drums, she also worked with producers  Finneas, Tainy, and Edgar Barrera on her new album.

It follows her 2021’s album  KG0516, which became Karol G’s Top Latin Album on Billboard, and earned her a Grammy nomination. Maana Será Bonito is her fourth studio album. The collection had the best week for a Latin album by a woman since 2017’s  El Dorado by Shakira.

In a sincere statement, Karol revealed the new album in January and said: “Today I reveal a creation that I’ve devoted just too much love and time to. I know that Maana Será Bonito (Tomorrow Will Be Beautiful) applies to both me and everyone else.”

They rented out an entire building with space for six sets for the video, which got filmed in Barcelona. Although both sides tried their best to keep everything a secret, considering the characteristics of each artist, this proved challenging.

As hard as we tried, Karol claims, it was difficult to conceal it. “So that we wouldn’t be in the public eye and run the risk of having our images leaked, we decided to film it in a studio.” Even though the song’s samples were made public, Karol says she’s glad the concept and vision had got kept a secret until the big debut.
