Decision to Leave got BAFTA 2023 nomination

For two British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Film Awards, the Korean film “Decision to Leave” was a contender.

The Park Chan Wook-directed film got nominations for Best Director and Best Film Not in the English Language Awards at 2023’s BAFTA Film Awards, as it was announced on January 19. Korean film fans from around the world are celebrating the nominations.

Along with “Argentina, 1985” (Santiago Mitre, Producer(s) TBC),  “The Quiet Girl” (Colm Bairéad, Cleona N. Chrualao), “All Quiet on the Western Front” (Edward Berger, Malte Grunert), and “Corsage” (Marie Kreutzer),  the movie was competing for Park Chan Wook and Ko Dae Seok’s Best Film Not in the English Language Award.

The strong nominations have already hampered the likelihood of the Tang Wei and Park Hae Il film winning a prize. Those prospects have been further diminished by the widespread popularity of “Argentina 1985.”

We were equally excited to see the Korean picture on this list, even though Netflix’s German adaptation of the World War I thriller “All Quiet on the Western Front” led the race with 14 nominations.
