The 2022 American absurdist comedy-drama Everything Everywhere All at Once was written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (also known as “Daniels”). This Chinese-American immigrant learns during an IRS audit that she must communicate with alternate-universe versions of herself to stop a powerful creature from destroying the multiverse.

In supporting, roles are Stephanie Hsu, Jenny Slate, Ke Huy Quan, James Hong,  Harry Shum Jr., and Jamie Lee Curtis. The New York Times referred to the movie as a “swirl of genre anarchy” that combined aspects of animation, science fiction, fantasy, and martial arts movies.

In 2010, Kwan and Scheinert began researching the multiverse theory, and by 2016, they had started writing the script. The lead part was initially intended for Jackie Chan, but it was later revised and offered to Yeoh. The principal filming took place from January to March 2020. Son Lux wrote the soundtrack for the movie, working with artists including Mitski,  André 3000, David Byrne, and Randy Newman.
