The Mission Impossible films are famous for their daring, death-defying, and kickass stunts. Each Mission Impossible series raises the bar for action sequences that audiences get to see. Mission Impossible: Fallout is packed with one of the remembered fight sequences with a visceral & brutal fight in a public washroom. Tom Cruise & his partner take down a suspicious man in the bathroom, only to be surprised by the amount of battle he has in him. A world where the laws of the real world (reality) are easy to break was introduced to the audiences in The Matrix—a mind-bending concept of a story with some incredible action fight sequences. In the row where Neo is in front of Agent Smith, he readily embraces the possibilities of the matrix world, of bending reality for an action-packed fight. It’s a mix of grounded & stylized on the old kung-fu movies.
4. O REN ISHI’S CRAZY 88 Vs. THE BRIDE – KILL BILL VOL.1
Tarantino’s Kill Bill Vol.1 is a unique blend of martial arts & revenge. Tarantino weaves the story of a woman, The Bride, who sets out on a mission for revenge against Deadly Viper Squad & Bill after they ambush her at her wedding. The movie uses old kung-fu movies, leading to a great climax battle. With Hattori Hanzo’s sword by her side, The Bride kills her way through the crazy 88 in a spectacularly gory fashion.
5. CLIFF BOOTH & BRANDY Vs. THE MANSONMURDERERS – ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD (2019)
Tarantino’s films use graphic violence heavily and are notoriously known for that. He took a different approach in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, with minimal film violence. Quentin Tarantino releases an entire movie’s worth of blood & gore in one brutal showdown in the finale. Like Inglorious Basterds, Quentin adjusted some history in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The Manson murderers didn’t go to Sharon Tate’s house to kill everyone there; they went to Rick Dalton’s house & get to fight their way out, where Cliff and his dog Brandy quickly served the justice.
6. ROCKY BALBOA Vs. APOLLO CREED – ROCKY II (1979)
Apollo Creed & Rocky Balboa are up against each other in the two most enigmatic fight scenes in history. Rocky & Rocky II chronicles Rocky’s journey to earning Apollo Creed’s respect. The fight in the finale of Rocky establishes the movie as a love story; when Apollo defeats Rocky & he doesn’t care. Whereas in Rocky II, when Rocky & Apollo face off each other, Rocky is the winner this time. A few rounds into the fight, Rocky & Apollo are exhausted. Rocky wins because he’s barely standing, and Apollo passes out due to exhaustion. His victory is of sheer determination & will.
7. THE SAUNA ATTACK – EASTERN PROMISES (2007)
In Eastern Promises, the bathhouse fight scene is a staggering display of violence. All the great movies have a location that’s instantly unforgettable & stands out to a viewer and is discussed around lunch breaks when talking about the film. In a Turkish bathhouse, two Chechen gangsters enter to kill a mobster. Dressed in a towel, Nikolai is coerced to fight for his own life across slick bathroom tiles, sweat & soon blood.
8. JAMES BOND & RED GRANT ON ORIENT EXPRESS – FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE (1963)
In the history of the James Bond series, everyone’s favorite British spy has gotten himself in and out of plenty of situations. But no fight scene in any Bond film can match the brawl in the Orient Express where James Bond fights off Red Grant in From Russia with Love. From Russia with Love was only the second in the series’ most savage fight sequence. After more than half a century, this violent sequence still stuns audiences.
9. HALLWAY FIGHT – OLDBOY (2003)
The Hallway action scene in Park Chan: Wook’s masterpiece Oldboy, a revenge thriller, is breathtaking. The film’s most jaw-droppingly and the grisliest remembered scene in which Oh Dae Su, who has been unjustly imprisoned, rips through the hallway of henchmen armed with a claw hammer. It took 17 days to complete the scene & there is no CGI except for Oh Dae Su’s stabbing.
10. INDIANA JONES CLIMAX – RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (1981)
In the climax scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indian Jones tries to stop the Nazis from taking away the artifact. Indiana Jones is faced with a mechanic working on a Nazi plane. While Indy’s girlfriend Marion kills the pilot, Indy embroils in a fist fight with the mechanic on the airfield. The mechanic prepares to deliver the final blow; Indiana Jones sees the plane’s rotating propellers approaching behind the mechanic & ducks down. It’s late for the mechanic to notice, and he gets killed by the propellers & his blood spills across the plane.
