Robert Downey Jr. is confirmed to return in Avengers: Secret Wars

Robert Downey Jr. has confirmed to return in Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars, along with having a cameo in AMOR WARS.

The fate of Iron Man has been uncertain ever after Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark passed away in Avengers: Endgame (2019). Fans have long anticipated that the actor will return, but neither Marvel Studios nor the actor has disclosed any vital information that would lead in that direction. However, when Kevin Feige revealed a new Disney+ series starring Riri Williams, aka Ironheat, fans began to speculate about the possibility of Iron Man returning to the MCU.

Recent rumors, however, suggest that Tony Stark may not make an appearance on the Dominique Thorn-led show. But there is still a lot of hope that the brilliant scientist-turned-superhero will appear in Avengers: Secret Wars.

According to rumors, Robert Downey Jr. will return in Avengers: Secret Wars.

Three years have passed since Iron Man died to stop Thanos from destroying the world, and fans are still hoping for a miracle to bring him back into the MCU. One of the most generally held fan hypotheses and conjectures is that Downey Jr.’s Iron Man may be brought back to life in Avengers: Secret Wars.

The last movie in Phase 6 will be Secret Wars, and Marvel Studios’ president has often said that he expects this project to outperform even Endgame. There have also been countless discussions on how the enormous portal moment from the Duffer brothers’ 2019 film will appear in Secret Wars, only it will be twice as epic. Almost every recognizable MCU superhero will appear together in the movie from different dimensions.

Therefore, according to these speculations and new sources, Downey Jr.’s Iron Man may make a spectacular return to Secret Wars. Cross your fingers!

Avengers: Secret Wars release date & casts

A significant Disney reorganization has delayed the premiere of Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars, pushing the beginning of the MCU’s Phase 6 to 2025.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Marvel Studios previously revealed several new films, including two Avengers movies that would be released six months apart in 2025. (Check out the Marvel Phase 5 for more details).

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars were scheduled to premiere in May and November 2025, respectively. Disney has, however, revealed that Avengers: Secret Wars, which was initially scheduled for release on November 7, 2025, will now hit theatres on May 5, 2026.

Casts

Avengers: Secret Wars and its predecessor, The Kang Dynasty, still need to have a single cast member confirmed by Marvel Studios, although several characters seem like safe bets.

For instance, if the time-traveling antagonist Kang The Conquerer isn’t eliminated after the first film, Jonathan Majors will almost certainly play him in both movies.

Meanwhile, we anticipate seeing all of the main Avengers characters—including Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, and Thor—appear in some form (Chris Hemsworth).

It’s also feasible that these films will mark the first appearances on the big screen of some of Marvel’s recently introduced Disney Plus characters, such as Moon Knight (Oscar Isaac) and She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany).

We can’t completely rule out the prospect of further appearances from earlier Marvel franchises, including Fox’s X-Men and Sony’s Spider-Man, considering that this movie will serve as the conclusion to what is being referred to as The Multiverse Saga.

Despite sharing the same title, there have been two significant Secret Wars storylines in the comic books, which are different.

Expect both components from the two stories to be incorporated into Avengers: Secret Wars and its unique flair.

Ironheart may not feature Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man.

Even though Robert Downey Jr. left his Iron Man role after Endgame, his bond with the character has never wavered. Fans have been waiting for Downey Jr. to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with this same attachment, and for a long time, it was thought that Ironheart would help him get there.

In the future year, Dominique Thorne will play Riri Williams in the superhero series Ironheart. The program centers on Riri, a 19-year-old MIT student motivated by Iron Man to create her own sophisticated, cutting-edge suit of armor. The audience has understandably expected some area for Iron Man in the series, given the apparent parallels between the two characters. According to fan speculations, if Iron Man isn’t brought back to life, Downey Jr. might appear in the program as an A.I.

Additionally, Downey Jr. and Thorne had an emotional talk regarding Thorne’s superhero role, Ironheart, and she made her film debut in Black Panther 2 alongside Ryan Coogler. The Sherlock Holmes actor gave Thorne some severe advice as she prepared to start her superhero quest. He approved her for the upcoming concert, encouraging her to keep him “heritage” alive.

After considering all of this, fans were almost sure that Downey Jr. would appear in the MCU once more. However, the likelihood of this happening today seems remote because reports indicate that the Dolittle actor will return to Marvel sometime soon.

In 2023, Disney + will air the first season of Ironheart.
