The Music Career of Zayn Malik
For the British music competition tv series The X Factor in 2010, Zayn performed a solo audition. After being eliminated from the contest, he was brought back to help form the five-member boy band One Direction, which became one of the most well-known boy bands of all time. He announced his breakup with the group in March 2015 and signed a deal with RCA Records for a solo album.

He created history when his 2016 solo album Mind of Mine‘s lead single, “Pillowtalk,” debuted at number one in both the UK and the US. He was the first British male artist to achieve this feat.
His subsequent collaborations with Taylor Swift and Sia, “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” and “Dusk Till Dawn,” were big successes worldwide. After releasing Icarus Falls, his second studio album, in 2018, he released his third album; Nobody Is Listening, in 2021.
A cover of “A Whole New World” by Zyan Malik and Zhavia Ward was recorded in 2019 for the soundtrack of the Aladdin remake. The bilingual English and Spanish version of “Un Mundo Ideal,” performed by Malik and Becky G, was made available on May 17. He and Aitana performed the entire song in Spanish.

On September 26, Malik and the independent pop group Shaed released a remix of the latter’s song “Trampoline.” The remix featured vocals by Malik. His subsequent collaboration was the electropop song “Flames,” which he co-wrote and recorded with Dutch DJ and producer R3hab and British DJ Jungleboi. On November 15, the song became a thing.
Three songs—”Grimez,” “47 11,” and “Believe Me”—collectively titled Yellow Tape was made available by Malik on September 13, 2021, via Dropbox. The tracks’ adoption of the classic hip-hop sound signaled a shift in his style of music. RCA fired Malik from their label in October 2021.
Accolades
Zayn has received much recognition, including an MTV Video Music Award and an American Music Award. He is the only musician to have won the Billboard Music Award for New Artist of the Year twice, once with One Direction in 2013 and once as a solo artist in 2017.
