His wife, Betty Jeanne Solomon, was found dead in 1989, strangled to death by his lover and coworker, Carolyn. Solomon wed his wife in 1970 while serving in the United States Air Force.

Although the pair initially enjoyed a period of happiness, they quickly began experiencing difficulties due to adultery. Solomon discovered his wife’s body on January 15, 1989, in the apartment they shared at the Greenburgh condominium complex. She sustained nine head, back, and leg wounds due to the shooting.

Soon after, Solomon became the primary focus of the investigation as a suspect, mainly after discovering that he was having an affair with Carolyn Warmus. Additional studies eventually found evidence that Carolyn was the killer, which led to her arrest and charges of second-degree murder and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

These charges were brought against her after she was arrested. The District Attorney granted Solomon immunity in exchange for his testimony against his ex-lover; however, the jury could not reach a verdict and the case was declared a mistrial.

The defense attorney attempted to place the blame for the murder on Solomon during the second trial; however, this strategy was unsuccessful. Carolyn was found guilty of the crime and given a sentence ranging from 25 years to life in prison.
