The Joel actor made a lighthearted comment, wondering what season of the year it is right now, in response to a question on the status of season 2 filming, specifically whether or not it would begin in 2023.

Neil Druckmann, the series’ co-creator and designer of the first game, promised just before the show’s renewal that The Last of Us would stay within its inspiration to prevent exhausting it.

Yet, The Last of Us season 2 may be broken into two parts to address the significant perspective of the second game’s story, according to Craig Mazin, The creative collaborator of  Druckmann.

Every Detail About The Last of Us season Season 2

There have been rumors that The Last of Us season 2 will pick up just where season 1 left off, with the game’s story being faithfully adapted.

Given the four-year time jump in the game, the show’s return this year would only put two years between both productions, necessitating significant changes to the tale of the original material.

Even in the first season of The Last of Us, there were a few references to the second game, such as in episode 6,  Joel’s tearful confession to Tommy.

Given that Druckmann and Mazin have acknowledged discussions about the structure of the upcoming season, writing will likely proceed quickly, allowing Pascal, Ramsey, and the rest of the cast to resume their work later this year.

The Last of Us season 1 episode that is still to air will be available to viewers every Sunday on HBO and HBO Max.
