As an Actor and in Other Activities
In 1967, Marty and Rossi broke up, and Marty tried his hand at acting in more serious roles, such as Wally in the television film “Mister Jerico” in 1970, then Johann Herbeck in the Golden Globe Award-nominated biopic about Johann Strauss, entitled “The Great Waltz,” starring Horst Buchholz, Mary Costa, and Nigel Patrick, then Bert Franklin in the film “Harrad Summer” in 1974, and two years later as Louie in “A Whale of a Tale.”

Joseph Charles Michael Tafarella was born on May 25, 1932, in New York City, New York, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication, arts and theatre, Greek and Latin from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
During the early 1950s, he was an officer in the United States Air Force. When he appeared in “The Student Prince” at the Civic Light Orchestra, Mae West and her manager Jerry Franks saw him. After that, he went to Ciro’s nightclub with Mae West.
It wasn’t until later on that Mae gave him the name Steve Rossi because she loved the name and was in a relationship with Steve Cochran, and she also liked Bernie Ross as her manager. She jumbled them up and added I to indicate Joseph’s Italian lineage, which he was unaware of at the time. Steve Rossi was conceived and brought into the world. Marty Allen, with whom he’d shortly meet, would go on to make history. Steve went away from cancer on June 22nd, 2014.
