Jean Smart won the best actress for Hacks at the SAG awards
The 29th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards now gets presented on Sunday night.
Best actress in a comedy series for Hacks went to Jean Smart, who just disclosed that she is recovering from a cardiac operation. Christopher McDonald, who played her on-screen, collected the honor on her behalf.
The Hacks cast updated PEOPLE on their costar, who is up for an award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a comedy series, on the red carpet at the 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Their co-star Mark Indelicato spoke candidly about working with Smart, 71, on the comedy series Hacks, which is vying for an award for outstanding performance by an ensemble.
Last week, Smart encouraged her Instagram followers to care for their health by posting that she was healing at home after a cardiac operation.
“I felt essential to tell all of you that I am recovering from a recent successful cardiac treatment,” she wrote. “February is American Heart Month – when the nation spotlights heart health.“
The actress continued, “I am blessed to have fantastic care and support from family and friends while recovering. Please listen to your body; I talked to my doctor. I’m glad! I did it.”
In response to the tweet, Jean Smart received many good wishes from followers and celebrities, such as Melissa Peterman and Sarah Rafferty.
The third season of Hacks, the HBO Max hit show, has been put on hold as she heals, though she hasn’t provided any other information on the heart surgery, according to Deadline. After Jean Smart heals, filming will allegedly resume again in the middle of March.

The 2023 SAG Awards are broadcast live from Los Angeles’ Fairmont Century Plaza on Netflix’s YouTube channel.
Jessica Chastain for George & Tammy and Sam Elliott for 1883 were the early winners in the categories for best male and female actors in a Television movie or limited series.
SAG honors Members of SAG-AFTRA, totaling 122,600, who vote for the winners. Jon Brockett serves as the show’s executive producer, and Avalon Harbor Entertainment handles production.
With five nominations apiece going into the presentation, including the top prize for best cast, The Banshees of Inisherin and Everything Everywhere All at Once is leading this year’s nominees.
Haley Lu Richardson of The White Lotus and Antonia Gentry of Ginny & Georgia has got chosen as the 29th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards’ ambassadors.
