This is the Single Most Important Image for the Nintendo Switch

The next iteration of Nintendo hardware is starting to finally take shape. Six months out from the release of what was previously codenamed the NX, Nintendo has given us the first glimpse of their console/handheld hybrid, Nintendo Switch.

Gamers are understandably excited about this reimagining of what a console can do — and more importantly where a console can go — but arguably the most important image concerning the Switch isn’t found in any of the frames of the three-minute reveal trailer released earlier today.

Switch

This photo shows a large number of third-party developers and publishers who are going to be making games for Nintendo’s new hardware.

The most damning critique of the WiiU was always the lack of third-party support the console received. While some publishers such as Ubisoft and WB brought some of their franchises over to the WiiU — Assassin’s Creed and Batman, respectively — the console missed out on almost every single major AAA release during its life-cycle.

Now, with the release of the Switch quickly approaching, fans who desperately want to see Nintendo compete once again in the console market have been eagerly awaiting to see whether or not the third-party support will be there. While the fruit of this talk is yet to be seen, the mere promise of publishers like Bethesda and Take-Two Interactive bringing their games to Nintendo’s platform excites gamers. From the trailer, it appears that at least Skyrim and NBA 2k17 will make their way over to the Switch.
